It’s difficult to refrain from pointing out the word “as” in Jesus’s model prayer is the Greek word, ως, a comparative particle, marking the manner in which something proceeds it.1
In other words, the answer to our prayer for forgiveness is dependent upon the premise that we have forgiven those who have asked forgiveness of us.
“and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12, ESV)
