Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. -Romans 5:9–10 (ESV)
Using therefore, Paul continues his argument from the greater to the lessor, showing that salvation is all of God. Based on what has already been shown—Christ died for sinners, not good or righteous men—how much more, therefore, shall we be saved from the wrath of God?
The wrath of God is a judicious response to man’s rebellion as described in chapter one, and it reveals God’s pure hatred of sin. But we have been saved from it by the blood of Christ. Christ alone is our propitiation (1 John 2:2). He is our redeemer. Whatever the full expression of Hell entails, we have been saved from it.
So, Paul continues, since God has reconciled us to himself by sacrificing his one and only son for us while we were sinners, how much more will we be saved by the life of Christ (he sits at the right hand of the father making intercession for us; see ; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1) now that we are his friends?
