“For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.” -Psalm 27:5
There is no shame in worshipping the Lord because he is the source of all blessings (James 1:17) and offers the greatest security. As a matter of fact, it is the Lord himself who makes this known in his covenant with Israel.
“And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me.” -Exodus 20:1–3
Seeking shelter in the safest place, The Lord, David’s desire to worship the Lord exclusively is covenant based. The Lord is the greatest, or as says Anselm, “that which there is nothing greater than can be imagined.”
This is also the basis of the argument offered by the author of the book of Hebrews:
“For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” -Hebrews 6:13–20
There is not a greater shelter, fortress, or safe place than in the Lord Jesus. Let us worship him for there is no one better, more beautiful, or more true him. And there is no greater god by which he could have promised us salvation, so he swore by himself and sealed the covenant with his blood on a cross.
