“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” -Psalm 37:4–6
Though it would be meaningful to treat each of these verses individually, on their own merits, something is lost if we don’t experience them together. Together, we get the full sense of what to do instead of Fretting ourselves (vs. 1).
Not only should we look ahead (vss. 2,10) to see the end of the wrongdoer, but we are also called to delight ourselves (take pleasure ) in the Lord and commit our way (our manner of life) unto him. While the wrongdoers will be no more, the righteous will flourish because the Lord will act on their behalf.
He will give the righteous the desires of their heart. He will act on their behalf. He will vindicate their right standing for all to see. Trust the Lord, and he will…
We can see an encouraging example of this in Acts 16:16-40.
