“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”” -Psalm 40:16
The Psalmist offers a general petition for all who find salvation in the Lord to also find their joy in him so that they will not be able to stop praising him and testifying of his greatness.
This reminds us of the first question of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, “What is the chief end of man.” The answer is “to glorify God and enjoy him forever.”
A rather well-known preacher and author has suggested we could easily modify the answer without changing the meaning of it, but instead, clarify the ultimate meaning of it. His answer is “to glorify God by enjoying him forever.”
