“Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; For he shall pluck my feet out of the net.” -Psalm 25:15
The image of the net reveals something of the stickiness of David’s situation. To have one’s feet caught in the net implies the danger is not merely imminent but it has been realized. He is presently caught in the snare of his enemy and is unable to escape its entanglement by his own powers. Thus, his eyes are ever toward the Lord, the only one who is able to deliver him from the danger he is in.
Too often we are like those who trust in chariots. Our eyes flit between idols looking for help from everyplace but the Lord. We look to government and politics, we look to doctors and lawyers, and we even look to bankers and credit card companies when we are in trouble.
To believe on the Lord is to believe that he alone is able to pluck our feet out of the net and so, in faith, we cast our eyes ever toward him.
