“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4, ESV)
Life on earth is not always easy; it’s full of hardship and heartache. The good news is that Jesus pronounced a blessing on those who mourn, promising that they shall be comforted.
The problem with some Christians is they have taken the verse to mean they should adopt this as the normal state of Christianity.
To adopt mourning as a lifestyle because you’ve been hurt, or because you have sinned, or because life hasn’t been fair to you is to miss the blessing, both here and in heaven.
The blessing is not promised to those with a sad countenance, a long face, or a sour disposition.
Rather, one implication is that the mourner would be looking, in humble anticipation, for comfort from the One who promised it.
