“in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;” (Psalm 15:4, ESV)
The next indicator that a person is one of the Lord’s and will dwell in his holy hill is seen in his rightly ordered disposition. He rightly despises the “vile” person, that is, the reprobate, while honoring the believer, the one who fears the Lord. This is not always easy, as the temptation to honor those whose influence will allow us to be accepted in the “inner circle” can be rather compelling.
Further, this man (or woman) also has a right disposition toward oaths. He keeps his word, even when it’s inconvenient to do so and it would be easier to rationalize breaking an oath.
Interestingly, we get a sense of our standing with God by evaluating who we honor and how much we honor our word.
